With the dust barely settling from The Weeknd's tracks 'What You Need,' 'Loft Music' and 'Wicked Games,' they've gone and released nine tracks for free. This is no ordinary mixtape; House of Balloons is a genre defining piece of music history that has to be taken notice of. Whether you like it or not, The Weeknd will be part of your life soon enough, and better sooner than later I say. Fellow Canadian Drake did the same thing late 2008 when he made So Far Gone. It seems that mixtapes don't sound like mixtapes anymore; they may as well be albums, "Dropped the mixtape, that shit sounded like an album," remember Drake boasting. The Weeknd, however, have raised the bar: every track on House of Balloons is an original production.
Their four previously released tracks are there ('The Morning' isn't chopped & screwed, a massive improvement), and the new tracks have carried on from where they left off, filling in the blanks.
